What is The Circuit Breaker?
The circuit breaker is a popular design pattern used to limit cascading failures in distributed systems. It operates automatically without the need for an external power supply, unlike a fuse. It was developed to protect electrical circuits from being overloaded. One of the main benefits of this protection system of the circuit breakers is that it prevents damage that could happen due to short circuits and power surges. The damage could be happened due to short circuits, overloads, fault current, direct current, high voltage, and high pressure of electricity, electrical shock or huge current interruption. This is a very efficient method of protection and can be found in almost all industries. Technologies used in circuit breakers include removable fuses, plug fuses and fuse wire, miniature circuit breaker, micro miniature circuit breakers, circuit breaker panel and a variety of other methods which serve to protect electrical devices from any excessive heat and load.
The circuit breakers also function as devices that prevent electrical fires by turning off the flow of the electricity to a circuit or device which is faulty. In the electrical systems found in modern buildings, an overcurrent protection device is also known as a fuse or circuit breaker. Circuit breakers are a type of fuse which protect electrical equipment and devices from overheating by opening the circuit when it detects too much current flow.
