Project Overview
With the growing demand for renewable energy in Africa, an increasing number of Nigerian households are deploying rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems to cope with grid instability. In this project, GEYA provided professional design guidance and core electrical protection components for a residential distributed PV combiner box (distribution box) for a customer in Abuja, Nigeria.

How the System Works
The residential PV system collects direct current (DC) through rooftop solar panels. Before this powerful DC energy enters the inverter to be converted into household alternating current (AC), it must pass through the PV distribution box for safety filtering and protection.
Inside the distribution box, the current first passes through the GEYA GYPV-32 DC Fuse. When the PV array operates normally, the current passes smoothly; in the event of a short circuit or abnormal overcurrent, the fuse will quickly cut off the faulty circuit to prevent cable overheating and fire. Meanwhile, the GSP9-C40PV DC Surge Protective Device (SPD) is connected in parallel to the main circuit. When the system encounters a lightning strike or grid surge, the SPD conducts within nanoseconds, safely discharging the destructive high-voltage surge current into the ground, thereby protecting the expensive downstream inverter and household loads from high-voltage impacts.

Challenges Solved
1. Lightning and Surge Threats
Some areas in Nigeria experience frequent thunderstorms, and rooftop PV panels are highly susceptible to lightning surges. GEYA's fast-response SPD effectively neutralizes this fatal threat, avoiding system paralysis and potential electric shock risks to personnel.
2. DC Arc and Fire Hazards
Once generated, DC arcs are extremely difficult to extinguish automatically. The GYPV-32 dedicated DC fuse provides reliable overcurrent isolation, nipping the hidden danger of fires caused by equipment short circuits in the bud.
3. Limited Installation Space
The space inside residential distribution boxes is usually quite compact. GEYA products feature a standard DIN rail mounting design; the modular structure not only saves space but also makes the on-site connection of red and black DC cables neater and more standardized.
Customer Feedback
"GEYA provided thoughtful guidance and purchasing solutions; even though I do not possess extensive knowledge regarding low-voltage protection, I could sense their professionalism and meticulous attention to detail regarding the project." — Project Customer
