GEYA Project | Philippine Household Manual Transfer Device

In the Philippines, households frequently face power grid fluctuations and require flexible, highly reliable emergency power solutions. To meet this demand, GEYA partnered with local clients to engineer a highly cost-effective Manual Dual-Power Transfer System.

By integrating GEYA's premium Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) into standard local distribution boxes, we transformed basic circuit protection into a centralized, safe switching hub. This allows homeowners to seamlessly and safely transfer their electrical load from the main utility grid to a backup generator or energy storage system during power outages.

How the System Works: The Foolproof Safety Interlock

In this setup, our MCBs do more than just provide standard overload and short-circuit protection—they act as the core operational nodes for power switching. The key to this system is the custom-designed mechanical interlock mechanism (the sliding copper/plastic bar).

Why is this structure necessary? Relying on human memory to turn off the grid before turning on the generator is extremely dangerous, especially in the dark during a blackout. The mechanical interlock enforces a strict "Break-Before-Make" rule. It physically prevents the user from switching both power sources to the "ON" position at the same time. While both breakers can safely be in the "OFF" position simultaneously, the sliding bar guarantees that one circuit must be completely disconnected before the other can be engaged.

This foolproof design ensures personal safety, prevents lethal backfeeding into the public grid, protects household appliances from out-of-phase power collisions, and ultimately eliminates the risk of electrical fires caused by human operational errors.

Step 1: Grid Power ON
Step 1: Grid Power Active. The interlock blocks the backup breaker from being turned on.
Step 2: Both OFF - Sliding the Interlock
Step 2: Grid Power OFF. The user slides the interlock safely to the other side.
Step 3: Backup Power ON
Step 3: Backup Power ON. The grid breaker is now physically locked in the OFF position.

Challenges Solved

  • Elimination of Human Error: The mechanical interlock forces users to operate the system in a safe environment, removing the guesswork and panic during sudden blackouts.
  • High Cost-Performance Ratio: Provided an affordable, highly durable alternative to expensive Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) without compromising on safety.
  • Space Optimization: Cleverly utilized standard local distribution boxes, avoiding the need to install bulky, secondary transfer panels on the wall.
  • Enhanced Fire Safety: By preventing simultaneous connection of two power sources, the system strictly avoids short circuits and equipment burnouts.

Customer Feedback

"Tuwing may pagkawala ng kuryente, lubos na naaapektuhan ang normal na buhay namin ng aking pamilya. Kinunsulta namin ang teknikal na pangkat ng GEYA, na nagdisenyo ng manu-manong solusyon sa pag-backup ng kuryente para sa amin. Hiningi ko rin ang opinyon ng isang lokal na elektrisyan, na nagpatunay na ang disenyo ay mahusay at praktikal—at, higit sa lahat, abot kaya."
