Basic Project Information

Location

EU, Belgium

Application

Residential Hybrid PV & UPS

Key Products

W2R-100 II, G2R-63II

In the evolving energy landscape of Belgium, homeowners are increasingly turning to self-consumption solutions to mitigate rising energy costs and ensure power stability. This project features a robust installation of a Hybrid Photovoltaic System designed to provide seamless switching between the main grid (City Power) and a backup power source (Solar Battery Storage/Generator).

The Goal: To achieve a fully automated, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that isolates the home from the grid during outages or peak tariff hours, prioritizing renewable solar energy.

The installation utilizes GEYA’s advanced Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) technology to manage the critical transition between power sources. As seen in the customer photos, the system is integrated into standard DIN rail distribution boards, adhering to strict European wiring standards (IEC) with clean cable management and proper circuit protection.

Related GEYA Products

This installation utilizes two distinct series of GEYA transfer switches to handle different load requirements within the property.

W2R-100 II Series ATS

Role in Project: Main Power Transfer

Visible in the main distribution panel, the W2R-100 II handles the heavy lifting. It is designed to switch high-current loads between the utility grid and the backup inverter output.

  • High Breaking Capacity
  • Instant Millisecond Switching (< 50ms)
  • Mechanical & Electrical Interlock for Safety

The Challenge & Final Result

The Challenge

Integrating a backup power source into a residential grid-tied system presents a safety challenge: Islanding. When the grid goes down, the home must be physically disconnected from the utility lines before the backup battery or generator engages. Failure to do so can be dangerous for utility workers and can damage the inverter. Furthermore, the switchover must be fast enough that sensitive electronics (computers, Wi-Fi routers) do not reset.

The Solution

The GEYA ATS units act as the “brain” of the power distribution.

In the W2R-100 II setup (shown in the project photos), the “City Power” is connected to the Primary Source (A), and the Hybrid Inverter/Generator is connected to the Secondary Source (B). When the grid fails, the GEYA ATS mechanically disconnects Source A and engages Source B instantly.

The Result

The homeowner now enjoys a “set it and forget it” energy system. The installation photos demonstrate a clean integration where GEYA components sit perfectly alongside other major European breaker brands (like Eaton and Siemens), proving GEYA ATS products can be seamlessly integrated into standard Din-rail electrical distribution panel systems.

  • Safety Assured: Zero risk of back-feeding the grid.
  • Energy Independence: Maximized use of stored solar energy.
  • Reliability: Tested durability for thousands of switching cycles.

Customer Feedback

“The transition between the grid and our battery backup is practically invisible. We wanted a system that would keep the lights on during winter storms without us having to go to the basement to flip switches. The GEYA switches have been running flawlessly, and the installation was straightforward for our electrician.”
