AC Contactor
What is an AC contactor?
AC contactor is one of the most common low voltage control appliances in electric drive and automatic control systems. As an executive element, AC contactors connect and brake lines or control motors frequently. It comprises moving and static primary contact, arc extinguishing cover, moving and static iron core, auxiliary contact, and bracket shell.
After the electromagnetic coil electrifies, the moving iron core is closed under the action of the electromagnetic force, and the moving contact and the static contact are contacted directly or through lever transmission, and the circuit is connected. Once the electromagnetic coil cut off happen, the moving iron core returns automatically under the action of the return spring, which is commonly known as release, contact separation, and circuit breaking.

The Electromagnet

- The core shape itself is entirely different, with it being of an E shape in an AC Contactor and a U shape in a DC contactor.
- The operating frequency of a DC contactor is almost double what an AC contactor can achieve.

All of the household contactors are modular, which is something that we will explain in a bit. The ones used are from AC-1 to AC-23. AC-5, 6, 7, 8 have two variants too and are all designed for different applications. Take the AC-7b, for example. Motor Starters
In motor starters, users use AC Contactors in overload relays or short circuit systems. Knife Blade Switch
It is perhaps the oldest contactor on the market. With a simple strip and a lever mechanism, the strip pulls the lever up or down, creating or breaking the connection. You could say that an AC contactor is a modern knife blade switch. They do have a significantly less current-carrying capacity as compared to our products.

Manual Contractors
The next-gen after the knife blade switch, which is still widely deployed, is the manual contactor. The manual contractors introduced double break contacts and had a considerably smaller size as compared to their predecessors. They were also pretty safe to use, hence enhancing their lifespan.

The latest and greatest in the world of contactors is this one. It is the same as a latching contactor but without a latch. It has the smallest size out of the bunch and also has a higher current carrying capacity.

Latching Contactors
A magnetic connector with a twist is called a latching contactor. The only significant difference is that the latch allows the contact to remain in the same position, even if the power is cut. That is great for some applications, such as remembering settings, which remain whenever the power is restored. In layman terms, the switched circuit will remain, regardless of whether there is power or not.
You must note that these last three contactors all have multiple contacts. As manual contactors introduced this, this has been on the latest and greatest versions of the contactor.
